Anguilla on Google Maps.
It all originated when the British conquerors of the island imposed customs duties on the inhabitants of Anguilla on imported and exported products from the nearby French and Dutch Caribbean islands. To smuggle the products, the islanders of Anguilla built particular boats with large sails and hulls without drift in order to escape the governor's ships. From this ancient story the Anguilla regattas started. Today, each village builds its boat and during the spring, all the villages compete in a race around the island. The show is not so much the regatta but what happens along the coast where each village follows and incites its own boat. A unique show in the Caribbean.
