The Abbey on Google Maps.
Located on Mount Pirchiriano, the monumental complex dating back to the year 1000, consists of four main areas: the guesthouse that once served to welcome the pilgrims who walked the Via Francigena, the monastery where the Benedictine monks lived, the church used for the religious services and the ancient castle of Roman origins destroyed by French in 1706 during the siege of Turin. The visit starts crossing the woods on the slopes of the mountain until you reach the ruins of the ancient monastery where the friars were buried. A long path leads to the entrance of the abbey and to the large internal staircase leading to the medieval complex. The church with Gothic architectural details, today contains several paintings and some tombs of the princes of Savoy Royal Family. Objects are collected in the museum and it is possible to know the rich history of the abbey. A trip for tourists looking for the history and culture of Piedmont.
