Ios on Google Maps.
The island is located in the southern Cyclades archipelago in the Aegean Sea on the ancient trade routes between Crete, further south, and the ports of the continental Greece of Piraeus, Lavrio and Rafina. The island, (17 km x 7 km) is scarcely inhabited with two main towns: Chora, the capital, and the port of Yalos, place of arrival of the ferries that connect it with the other islands of the archipelago. The rest are small villages on the slopes of Mount Mylopotas (713 m). To visit the island the best way is to rent a scooter, this solution allows you to quickly reach all the beautiful beaches bordering the rocky island where the legend wants to find the Homer’s Tomb, the famous Greek poet author of the famous renowned poems of the Iliad and the Odyssey. A trip to Ios allows you to spend beautiful holidays among nature, sea, walks and swimming in the quiet and relaxing atmospheres of the island, savoring typical dishes of the island based on fresh fish just caught by local fishermen.
