National Sanctuay on Google Maps.
The Huayllay National Sanctuary, known by trekking enthusiasts as Bosque de Pietras, is located not far from Lima, about 138 km inland towards the Cordillera de Huayhuash but it takes almost 7 hours to reach the Meseta del Bombon not far from the large lake Junin (Pasco province). The small mining town of Huayllay is the starting point for the Bosque de Pietras park. At the entrance of the park you have to register and then, after a few kilometers of dirt road, the rock conformations that make this Peruvian park famous appear. The path, better to have a guide because it is easy to lose orientation, runs through narrow valleys dominated by pinnacles, vertical cliffs and rocks sculpted by water and wind that look like giant animals such as turtles, crocodiles, elephants or statues of solders that seem to observe the visitor. Beautiful reach the top of high pinnacles to observe the surrounding landscape or reach windows carved into the thin walls of some rocks to greet incredulous friends who have remained in the valley. A sporting but also cultural journey, especially observing the ancient cave paintings hidden in the caves and ravines of the park.
