Teide on Google Maps
Although located on the island of Tenerife (Canary archipelago), the Teide with its 3,718 m of altitude is the mountain, or rather the volcano, the highest in Spain nation. Located almost in the center of the island of Tenerife, the Pico del Teide together with the Pico Viejo (old) are located within the Teide Volcanic National Park (UNESCO Heritage). Thanks to a cable car with departure station at 1,200 meters above sea level, it is possible to climb quickly (about 8 minutes), up to the arrival station at 3,550 meters above sea level and from there, thanks to a path, to reach the top of the volcano. To go up on foot following a path paved with lava rocks, you need a permit issued by the park authority. From the top of the volcano you can observe the panorama of the island and, on clear days, of the entire Canary archipelago. The long lava flows produced in ancient times by the volcano reach the Atlantic Ocean generating high cliffs of brown and black rocks that plunge into the clear ocean waters. An unforgettable excursion that ends in the woods of Canary pines and small low-altitude villages where you can taste typical local dishes.
