Cagnes sur Mer on Google Maps.
Perched on a hill in the Var valley, in the 14th century the village developed within the walls of the castle built to defend the fishing village below called Cros-de-Cagnes. In the nineteenth century, the medieval castle of the Grimaldi family was restored and the ancient village resumed life with craft shops and olive oil production companies. The medieval village is internationally known thanks to the numerous artists and painters who frequented the ancient village such as Modigliani and Renoire. Today, the medieval village is incorporated into the city of Cagnes-sur-Mer and remains a small oasis quite away from the crowded beaches of the Côte d'Azur.
