Syros on Google Maps.
Due to its strategic central position with respect to the archipelago, Syros has been the administrative capital of the entire Cyclades archipelago since ancient times. For this reason it is a crowded island, sometimes chaotic, frequented by students and islanders from other islands for bureaucratic formalities, to request documents and those things that are done when dealing with the state. Ermoupoli, the capital of the island, is a highly urbanized city unlike the rest of the island, like the northern part home to shepherds and flocks is sparsely inhabited. The central southern part, however, the most touristic, has beaches and fishing villages from which boat trips depart along the coast. The island is therefore not a purely tourist destination but is in any case worth visiting especially for Ermoupoli, the only place in the Cyclades that can be defined as a city, home to museums and monuments. The deserted and uncrowded beaches, the bays reachable only by boat and the views around the island, are still a good opportunity to visit the island
