Kiel Canal on Google Maps.
A very special cruise from Copenhagen (Denmark) to the German coast to cross the Jutland peninsula sailing along the 98 km of the Kiel Canal. Built to connect the Baltic Sea (east side) to the North Sea (west side), avoiding long sailing of almost 300 nautical miles in the cold and treacherous northern seas, the canal connects the town of Kiel to Brunsbuttel. The construction of the canal took place at the end of the 19th century by the German Navy but the strategic and above all commercial importance of the canal was immediately evident so much so that it was expanded at the beginning of the 20th century. The construction of two large locks, Holtenau and Brunsbuttel, also allowed the large merchant container ships to cross the peninsula between woods and large cultivated areas. The cruise allows you to take advantage of the comfort of the cruise boat with the pleasure of sailing without stormy seas passing close to small villages surrounded by lush vegetation. A curious, relaxing and very particular journey.
