Helsinki on Google Maps.
Located on the shores of the Gulf of Finland, one of the many branches of the Baltic Sea, Helsinki metropolitan area is a collection of suburbs and small towns partly distributed on the continent partly on the islands of the gulf. The alternation of territorial conquests by Sweden first and Russia can be seen in its Evangelical-Lutheran, Catholic and Orthodox churches, a mixture of faiths and cultures united only in 1918 when Helsinki became the capital of the independent Republic of Finland. Today it is a very popular tourist city thanks to its museums, the quality of life, its architecture to its department stores and two places very well known by northern European tourism, Kauppatori square, the square of the markets and the monumental church carved into the rock, the Temppeliaukio Kirkko. A journey of cultural discovery in a young and very dynamic capital.
