Located in Provence, not far from the town of Carpentras, the mountain with the bald top, as the French usually call it, can be seen from all over Provence territory, distinguishable from the other peaks because the vast stony ground that characterizes the summit. 1,912 meters high, swept by the Mistral, (strong wind that sometimes exceeds 160 km/h) the road leading to the top of the mountain is one of the most famous and difficult roads of the Tour de France so that the englishman Tommy Simpson died for the extreme effort to reach the summit in year 1967 and also the famous Eddy Merckx suffered an illness during the ascent. In the summer, thousands of cycling enthusiasts take advantage of the tiring 15 km climb of the "bald mountain" for an unforgettable and exhausting climb.
