The squares near the castle, the cathedral and the historic center of the Alpine city, during Christmas period fill with stalls, lights and shows that brighten up the ancient and austere streets with stone buildings of the medieval village. Its long history, Chambéry was founded at a crossroads of ancient routes through the Dauphiné, Burgundy, Switzerland and Italy, in a wide valley between the Bauges and the Chartreuse Mountains, it is still visible today in the imposing castle of 14th century, in palaces and large squares outside the walls. During the Christmas period, from November 23rd to January 5th, the aromas of hot spiced wine, local sweets and hot chocolate sold in market stalls spread. Other multicolored stalls exhibit sweaters, stockings and mountain caps, handicraft products in wood and stone, toys and typical products of the region such as cheeses, honey, sweets and much more for the joy of adults and children.
