Le Bories on Google Maps.
In the little unknown Provence on the hills behind Marseille there are two interesting curiosities. In the medieval village of Lacoste is located, at the top of the hill, the castle where the Marquis De Sade lived, a French writer, poet and novelist who became famous for his unusual, violent and ambiguous tales, novels so famous and peculiars such to generate a term at the time nonexistent and today known throughout the world, sadism. The castle, restored and partly deliberately left in ruins, today it is owned of the famous fashion designer Pierre Cardin. The castle, is now location of interesting art exhibitions, some stable collections such as the large arms that welcome visitors, others temporary. The other curiosity present in this area of Provence is the village of Les Bories located not far from Lacoste and near the village of Gordes. The peculiarity of this village inhabited by shepherds and farmers until the beginning of the twentieth century lies in the fact that it is completely built with large stones superimposed on each other and without the use of consolidation mortars. A very particular village with numerous houses, some of which is possible to visite, completely made of stone. A particular rural architecture typical of these areas of France.
