Villa del Casale on Google Maps.
The remains of the splendid Roman villa called Villa del Casale are located a few kilometers from the town of Piazza Armerina in Sicily. Dating back to between 320 and 370 AD, it is famous for its mosaic floors that cover the entire area of the Villa which extends over 3,500 square meters. Thanks to a path on a balcony suspended above the mosaics, visitors can admire all the artistic masterpieces of the villa which is spread across dozens of rooms, halls and corridors. The mosaics of the Villa del Casale, a UNESCO heritage site, allow us to retrace the history of the largest Roman Empire, with scenes of daily life, depictions of heroes and divinities, hunting scenes and games. The most famous mosaic is the one of the girls in bikinis, a representation of young women engaged in sporting activities, the only representation of its kind in antiquity. During a trip or a holiday in Sicily it is not possible not to visit this masterpiece of art from the ancient Roman Empire.
