Ouessant Island on Google Maps.
The island of Ouessant is part of a small archipelago located at one hour and half from the port of Le Conquet, in the western tip of Brittany. The archipelago is famous to be the place where Augustin Fresnel (1788-1827) tested the first prism lens, changing the history of lighthouses. Until then, the headlights were high towers with a brazier which burned wood and oil of whale. With the advent of optical prism combined with a light bulb, the lighthouse became what is still today warns sailors and captains of dangerous presence of rocks and cliffs.
